As The World Turns, So Does Road Construction

Road crews continue to work on projects across Carver County. Though it might feel like an endless summer of detours and traffic delays, progress is visible. Here’s a roundup of three larger projects:

Highways 212 and 5 (Chanhassen/Eden Prairie) – Work continues on repairing concrete, paving shoulders and updating guardrails on Highway 212 and Highway 5 between Eden Prairie Road and I-494 in Eden Prairie. Traffic has been slow in this area, and construction crews will continue their work through September.

Ramp closures coming up the first week of August include:

  • Aug. 4 (5 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
    • Eastbound I-494 ramp to westbound Highway 212
    • Westbound Highway 212 ramp to Prairie Center Drive
  • Aug. 4 to 5 (5 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
    • Wallace Road to westbound Highway 212
  • Aug. 5 to 6 (5 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
    • Eastbound I-494 to westbound Highway 212
    • Westbound Highway 212 to Prairie Center Drive

Highways 41 and 10 (Engler Boulevard) (Chaska) – The second of four roundabouts has been constructed. Crews are almost finished with installation of concrete and gutter along Engler Boulevard, and the first layer of pavement has been laid between Royal Oak and White Oak Drives. Preparation for pedestrian ramps and sidewalk installation from Royal Oak Drive to Highway 41 is also done.

Next up: Continued work on storm sewer installation, retaining walls and box culverts, along with concrete pouring for ramps and sidewalks.

Detours information can be found on the project website.

Highways 11 and 14 (Victoria) – Roundabout construction continues, though it has been delayed again due to weather and scheduling issues – with a new estimated completion date of early August. The recommended detour uses Shady Oak Drive and Highways 10, 11 and 43.
