Your Voice Matters: Shaping the Future of Southwest Chaska Park

The City of Chaska is one step closer to making the vision of a new 50+-acre park in Southwest Chaska a reality — and it’s a vision shaped by local residents.

Earlier this spring, more than 1,000 residents participated in an initial survey to share their hopes and ideas for the park.

From those responses, three strong themes emerged: a desire for nature, play and sport. That community input has now been transformed into three distinct concept plans, each offering a unique layout and mix of amenities that reflect the topography of the site and the priorities shared by Chaska residents.

“We’ve been listening closely from the start, and it’s been incredible to see the community show up in such a meaningful way,” said Marshall Grange, Chaska Parks and Recreation director. “The energy and thoughtfulness people have brought to this project has been really fun to be part of, and we’re excited to take the next step together.”

The three concepts are now available to view online where community members can explore the layouts, compare amenities, and provide feedback through a quick survey available through Monday, Aug. 4.

In addition to the online platform, the Parks and Recreation team was available for questions and comments at this year’s Fire and Ice Festival July 11-12, and will be on hand at River City Days (July 25-26) with large-scale visuals, interactive boards and experts available to answer questions and collect more feedback in person.

“This is a project that’s been close to my heart since I first joined the City Council,” said Chaska Mayor Taylor Hubbard. “To now be in a position as mayor, watching these early ideas take shape into actual park plans, is incredibly exciting. I can’t wait to see what comes next as we work together to create something truly special for everyone in Chaska.”

According to Grange, the future park will embrace universal design principles, ensuring access and enjoyment for everybody — young, old and all abilities. In addition to key features like a Miracle League Field and a destination-sized playground, planners are still eager to hear what else the community would love to see — from trails and gardens to courts, fields and beyond, Grange said.
