Marinades Add Marvelous Flavor

Few things are better than a summer barbeque. Fire up the grill, pick a protein – or even vegetables – and dinner can be quickly put together without heating up the kitchen.

Though burgers, bratwurst and hot dogs are often family favorites, other options are also popular. Planning ahead and adding a marinade to a protein before grilling can yield even better results. By soaking protein in a flavorful mixture before cooking, chefs are able to tenderize, add moisture and enhance flavor.

There are dozens of marinade options (two are included below for chicken, but they could be used for other proteins as well). Add the marinade mixture to protein for at least 30 minutes before grilling (or up to a day in advance). The results? Positively delicious!

Balsamic Soy Marinade

  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp rosemary
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 6 chicken breasts

Mix all ingredients together and pour over chicken (or other protein). Marinade for 30 minutes or up to a day before grilling/cooking.

Easy Salsa Marinade

  • 1 cup salsa
  • ½ cup course mustard
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • 4 chicken breasts

Mix ingredients in a small bowl. Pour over chicken and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before grilling/cooking.
