Met Council Hits the Road, Meets in Chaska

Do you know about what the Metropolitan Council is or what they do?

Responsible for planning, policymaking and providing some essential services in the seven-county Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, its work touches communities and their residents every day.

Every time you flush a toilet or put something in the drain, Met Council sewage treatment facilities process that waste. If you sip fresh drinking water, the Met Council works with local agencies and communities to ensure that the water now and in the future is safe to drink and sustainable.

They also provide funding for critical infrastructure such as roadways and bridges, coordinate planning across the metro, and provide funding for affordable housing. In addition, they provide public transportation services across the Twin Cities, including Metro Transit and Metro Mobility, as well as funding for the local transit agency, SW Transit.

In an effort to connect directly with residents, the Met Council is hosting an open house and meeting in Chaska at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at the Chaska Event Center.

The Council members will be sharing their Imagine 2050 Regional Development Guide.

The evening schedule is as follows:

  • 4:30-5:00 p.m.: Open house. Social gathering, chat informally with Met Council members and staff. This is a great chance to ask questions and connect with Met Council leadership, including District 4 Council Member Deb Barber, who represents Carver County.
  • 5-6 p.m.: Committee of the Whole – Highlighting District Four. The formal Committee of the Whole meeting will commence, featuring a special segment hosted by Tane Danger. Danger will be highlighting some of the impactful ways the Met Council has contributed to and partnered with communities within District Four.

The public is encouraged to attend.
