As the academic year nears its end, the halls of high schools are filled with a bitter-sweet energy. For Eastern Carver County Schools’ seniors, set to graduate on May 29, this moment is equal parts excitement and nostalgia.

Among them is Kysa Peterson, a Chanhassen High School standout whose academic career is as impressive as it is impactful.
A Legacy of Leadership
Throughout her time at Chan, Kysa participated as a tour guide, served as president of the National Honor Society, competed in varsity athletics, and is set to graduate with a 3.94 grade point average. But her legacy exceeds her academic commitment, through the connections she’s made while at Chanhassen.
In reflecting on her high school experiences she said, “I walked into Chanhassen knowing three people. Now that I’m leaving, I can’t count how many people I have met… I would describe myself as outgoing and extroverted, but I couldn’t have made as many friends as I did if it weren’t for the complete and utter support I had from Chan… I have always believed that optimists have more fun and I am beyond excited to open a new chapter, but I can’t help but feel a hole in my stomach when I remember I can’t pack up my hometown with me.”
Chanhassen’s effect
Kysa also discussed how the faculty at Chan impacted her experience.
In relation to her participation in sports, she explained how coaches “made [her] feel seen and valued instead of like just another player.”
With regard to her academics, she described how teachers “made [her] feel that [her] presence truly mattered to them. [She] could walk into any class and consistently be greeted with a warm smile, even on [her] worst days.”
Sun Devils Bound
In the fall, Kysa will be attending the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. She plans on majoring in psychology (with a potential double major in business). She most looks forward to the warmth and packed stadiums, although she says “nothing will ever compare to Friday night football games at home.”
To all Eastern Carver County seniors: Congratulations! Here’s to your next chapter and a bright future.
