Louisa Kingsbury, Natalie Chua and Addie Singh of Chanhassen High School, along with Mimi Damiba, Sam Kvam, Peyton Webb, Victoria Wirtz and Mila Patel of Chaska High Schools, have ranked nationally in the 90th annual Le Grand Concours, the national French competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.
Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills in French. More than 46,000 students competed in the 2025 event. Kris Rydland is the teacher of these French 3 and 4 students.
Kingsbury ranked first in Minnesota and sixth nationally in Level 3 French, after scoring 90% or higher and attaining “gold” status.
Third in Minnesota and ninth nationally were Chua, Damiba and Kvam. Webb placed fourth in Minnesota and 10th nationally, while Wirtz was sixth in Minnesota and 12th nationally. Patel was seventh in the state and 13th in the nation.
Singh was fourth in the state and 11th in the nation in Level 4 French.
“As president of AATF, and as someone who has been involved with Le Grand Concours at the chapter level for more than 20 years, I am delighted to extend my congratulations to those students who have performed exceptionally well on the Concours,” said AATF President Will Thompson. “I hope their accomplishments encourage them to continue to cultivate their interest in French and Francophone language and culture in future years.”
