Comcast Bringing New High-Speed Internet to Four Local Cities

More homes and businesses in Victoria, Prior Lake, Savage and Waconia will soon have access to high-speed, symmetrical Internet due to an expansion project from Comcast.

Construction has already begun in Victoria, with plans to complete work there by the end of 2025. Work in Prior Lake, Savage and Waconia is expected to start later this year, though exact timelines are still being finalized.

This expansion brings Comcast’s next-generation Xfinity network to these cities for the first time. Residents will have access to faster service, including new “symmetrical Internet,” meaning upload and download speeds will be the same. This upgrade helps support activities like video calls, remote work and online learning more efficiently.

“This expansion is about providing residents and businesses with a best-in-class network for the first time,” said Patrick Stumpf, manager of external communications for Comcast’s Midwest Region.

When service launches, customers can expect access to 1-gigabit speeds and beyond, along with a full suite of Xfinity offerings like mobile, video, voice and home security services, according to Comcast.

What residents can expect during the project:

  • Advance notice before construction begins, usually with a door hanger and a local contact number.
  • Construction crews working in neighborhoods, with restoration afterward to original condition.
  • New high-speed Internet options becoming available after construction.

“We’re excited to bring more choices and faster connections to these growing communities,” Stumpf added. “We look forward to working closely with residents, local leaders, and businesses as we expand our services.”

The expansion also makes Comcast’s Internet Essentials program available to more families. Internet Essentials is designed to help low-income households, seniors and students get connected at a reduced cost, helping close the digital divide.

Local businesses will benefit, too, gaining access to new networking, cybersecurity and connectivity options, according to Comcast.

Comcast emphasized that this project is part of a larger national effort to bring modern broadband service to underserved areas. The company also looks forward to connecting with the community through local events, including Victoria’s upcoming Fun in the Sun Season.
