Wondering what to do in the New Year? Check out Winter Reads Program

Carver County libraries will host the Winter Reads program for adults (ages 18+) from Jan. 1  to Feb. 28, 2025. There is no cost, and individuals can register online at https://www.carverlib.org/services/winterreads or at any Carver County library branch.

It’s easy to participate: participants write a book review for each title read during the program. Forms are available online or can be picked up and turned in at the library.

There are multiple benefits to taking part in the program. While supplies last, participants receive a prize for signing up. For their first book review, each participant will receive a coupon for a free book at any Friends of the Library book sale or bookstore.

New this year: When participants enter the prize drawing, they can choose between a Barnes & Noble, Target, or a Bookshop.org gift card.

Also debuting this year is an adult bookmark contest. Using the form available at all Carver County libraries, original designs must be submitted by Feb. 28. Then members of the public will have a chance to vote. Winners will be selected at each branch and will receive a $15 gift card. Their bookmark will also be printed.

Author talks are also part of the Winter Read programs. They will be on the Carver County Library Facebook page, and all programs will start at 6:30 pm.

  • Jan. 21 – Ellie Palmer, author of Four Weekends and a Funeral, will be featured.
  • Feb. 3 – The library will host the owners of the Twin Cities’ first romance-specialist bookshop, Tropes & Trifles, who will talk about why the romance genre is so popular and expand readers’ ideas about what romance novels can be.
  • Feb. 10 – Sally Franson’s author talk will be moderated by Daniel Hornsby. Franson’s newest book is Big in Sweden.
  • Feb. 18 – Marcie Rendon, author of Where They Last Saw Her and the Cash Blackbear murder mystery series, will be featured.
