Chanhassen Rotarians Rally to Rake for Seniors

For many, autumn is a favorite time of year. Locals can still sleep with the windows open a bit. Sweaters reappear in the closet.

Trees are loaded with crimson, gold and magenta leaves. They’re beautiful, until they fall on your lawn.

Some residents gather them with rakes and bag them. Some just run them over with a mulching lawnmower. Some hire a service to take care of those pesky leaves.

Some folks aren’t that lucky, which is why the Chanhassen Rotary holds its annual leaf raking event. On Saturday, Oct. 26, 32 Chanhassen Rotarians deployed themselves in the local area and raked leaves for seniors.

The service club contacts local senior centers and residents for the names and contact information of people needing help.

One lawn was almost a half of an acre. It took a dozen Chanhassen Rotarians with four leaf blowers and a bunch of rakes one hour to complete the job. Some 60 bags of leaves later, there was one very happy and grateful senior.

In all, Rotarians raked five yards and accumulated 185 bags of leaves. Afterwards, the group celebrated with sub sandwiches and fellowship.

As a service club, the Chanhassen Rotary organizes and executes dozens of projects like this locally, nationally and internationally.

The club meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. each Wednesday at the Chanhassen Legion. Guests are welcome. For more information or to become a member, visit https://www.chanhassenrotary.org.
